Founded in the late sixties (Law N ° 4161 of 31/12/1968), ENIT is the oldest of the engineering schools of Tunisia. The founder – and first director of ENIT – is Mr. Mokhtar LAATIRI, a Tunisian engineer and senior official. Since its creation, ENIT has continued to be entrusted with decisive national missions. Polytechnic of vocation, it provided to the young Tunisian state which had just recovered its independence, its high technical executives who laid the bases of the civil and industrial infrastructure (electrical production, factories, dams, road networks, works, etc.) . Such infrastructures have largely contributed to sowing the springs of the economic development of Tunisia today.
Similarly, during the 1980s, it spun over some of the youngest engineering schools enriching the Tunisian panorama of engineering education today. Lastly, ENIT has been and continues to be a renewable pool of experts and senior executives of the State, with recognized expertise in the fields of higher education, research and engineering.
Today, ENIT draws on its history and experience ideas and strengths to face new challenges:
- train more engineers in a context of international competition capable of producing, innovating and undertaking in the context of the knowledge society,
- make a decisive contribution to the creation of an advanced research base in the field of engineering sciences and techniques that has a direct impact on the Tunisian citizen.
A new challenge, new missions. Thus, ENIT, today, conducts three complementary missions:
- diploma training for engineers in trades meeting the real or potential needs of the market,
- permanent and distance training to sharpen the performance of practicing engineers,
- research, innovation and transfer of know-how through technology development and entrepreneurship.
Missions conducted in a context of competition that should be controlled and with staff that he is asked to transform into generators of wealth.Each year, nearly 400 national competition winners choose ENIT to pursue their three-year course in one of its nine streams. The recruitment of engineering students at ENIT takes place mainly on three (3) national entrance exams for engineering training courses. These competitions are: Mathematics and Physics (MP), Physics and Chemistry (PC) and Technology (T). They consist of written tests for candidates who have completed two (2) years of preparatory classes. The Specific Competition (CS), which is a competition on file, also allows to recruit students in the first year among the good candidates holding a license. In addition, the school recruits foreign students under the same conditions as Tunisian students. Over the past five years, enrollment of ENIT students has averaged 60% MP, 22% PC, 16% T and 2% CS.
On average over the last five years, the ENIT has 45% of students who received the mention “Good” at the baccalaureate and 47% of mentions “Very Good” which confirms the good level of students recruited, 31.4% are originating from the four governorates of the Tunis region, 67.3% from other regions of Tunisia and 1.3% from foreigners (mainly from sub-Saharan Africa). The female gender represents a large part of the enrollment of school admissions: 41% on average over the last five years.
The nine (9) sectors of ENIT are: Civil Engineering (GC), Electrical Engineering (GE), Hydraulic Engineering and Environment (GHE), Industrial Engineering (GI), Mechanical Engineering (GM), Computer Science (Info), Modeling for Industry and Services (MIndS), Advanced Techniques (AT) and Telecommunications (Telecom). These nine streams are managed by five departments: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information and Communication Technologies.
